Vance N. Smith was born and raised in Southern California. He attended the University of California in Santa Barbara for two years, but began working during a leave of absence and never returned. He currently works for a public utility company where he’s been employed for the past thirty-one years. Though he’d written a few poems over the years, Smith didn’t tackle fiction until 2011, when he started on his first novel, Battlefields.
