These arrangements were created as part of my role as organist at St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Belleville, Illinois, since 1990. Most of them were developed either as offertories or as organ solos for “Keyboard Praise,” an annual pres- entation each October featuring the organ and ten grand pianos. These have been well received through the years and can be very useful as offertories, as organ solos or as encores for organ recitals. Under the direction of Hank Oplinger, Minister of Music and Worship, St. Matthew UMC features a wide variety of musicians and musical styles. For example, the Chancel Choir does everything from Southern Gospel and Black Gospel to classical music. Please visit the church’s website: www.stmatthewumc.org. Click on “Worship Media.” There you will find a variety of anthems, musical presentations, and several of my solos, includ- ing some of the arrangements in this collection. In many of the arrangements, a registration is called for that is somewhat general in nature. For example, “Great Full” means Great principals, flutes, and mixtures, as well as possibly reeds. Please feel free to adjust the registrations and the tempi to fit your setting, the organ on which you are performing, and your personal prefer- ences. Please feel free to make other adjustments as needed. For example, where a “Choir Solo Reed” is specified, please feel free to use a reed from the Great or Swell. Also please feel free to adjust the notation as you desire. It is not necessary to play each and every note as written. In two selections, a running bass appears in the left hand. This can be enhanced if desired by using the “bass” or “continuo” piston found on many organs. This adds the pedal registration to the lowest note of the left hand. These are: God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen Measures 1-30, 99-127 O Come, All Ye Faithful Measures 77-98 Several of the arrangements in this collection have pedal solos. These may be omitted if desired or they may be played on the manuals using the “bass” or “continuo” coupler. I am grateful to Noel Jones for making these arrangements available through Frog Music. I hope and pray they will be a blessing to you and to those who hear you.
