Dr. John Gaisford, who is called “Jack”, was born in Chicora, Pennsylvania in 1915. He attended Kiski Prep and the University of Pennsylvania on golf scholarships, and earned his M.D. from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., in 1942. He served in the Army in World War II as Assistant Chief of Surgery of the 92nd Field Hospital, later as Chief of Surgery of a spun-off M.A.S.H. Unit.Dr. Gaisford is board certified in both general and plastic surgery, and has spent his entire medical career in Pittsburgh. He served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at West Penn Hospital from 1971 - 1984, and in 1970 he founded the hospital’s Burn Trauma Unit. He still visits his office there every day.And he still swings a golf club everyday. Dr. Gaisford and his wife Frances have been married for 60 years. They live in Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania, and they have three daughters—Linda, Cynthia and Carolyn.
