The work of renowned Guadalajaran artist Gonzalo Lebrija addresses the notion of power, bureaucracy and hypocrisy in Mexican society and, by association, the Western world. Creating photographs and installations imbued with both humour and a probing insistence to unveil the faults of seemingly unfaltering political structures, Lebrija invites us to observe Armani-clad businessmen riding bulls, or lawyers participating in a paper-aeroplane competition from Guadalajara s tallest office block. By undermining steadfast political and business hierarchies, Lebrija puts into question the true pecking order of modern society. In his first major monograph 80 full-colour illustrations of the artist s multifarious work sit alongside texts by poets, artists and architects specially commissioned by Lebrija.

Gonzalo Lebrija was born in 1972 in Mexico. He was runner up for the Champagne Perrier- Jouet Prize for Best Artist at Zoo Art Fair 2007. Solo shows include 15753kms at Arena Mexico, Arte Contemporaneo, Guadalajara (2003), Lights On at I-20 Gallery, New York (2003), Gonzalo Lebrija at La BF15 in Lyon (2005), Gonzalo Lebrija Obra reciente at Pilar Parra & Romero Galeria de Arte, Madrid (2006), R75/5 Toaster at Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Mexico City (2006), Gonzalo Lebrija Lights on and Aranjuez at Ikon Gallery, Birmingham (2007), Gonzalo Lebrija at I-20 Gallery, New York (2007), la nuit etoilee at Galerie Laurent Godin, Paris, (2007), breve historia del tiempo at Travesia Cuatro in Madrid, (September 2008). As well as numerous group shows. He is with galleries in Paris (Galerie Laurent Godin), New York (I-20 Gallery), Guadalajara (Arena Mexico Arte Contemporaneo) and Spain (Travesia Cuatro).
