Doris Youmans was born in Georgia in 1930. Doris was a farmer's daughter born in the same log cabin her father was born in. Raised by an elderly father and paralyzed mother. She was the youngest of five children. She had two brothers and two sisters. One sister died many years before she was born. She never remembers seeing her mother walk. She and her brothers and sister had the hardship of doing most of the jobs required by adults. She dreamed of going to school to further her education, but felt that that could never be achieved. Since she was the youngest daughter she was destine to care for her mother and father. Finally at a young age she felt that she had to change this but, sometimes matters only got worse. She did steal some satisfaction out of life regardless of the hardships and circumstances.
