Lydia Panas has exhibited widely throughout the United States, and is gaining attention in Europe and Asia. She has won numerous awards and honors including, most recently, BEST OF SHOW and FIRST PLACE, Art of the State, State Museum of Pennsylvania, 2011. Lydia was one of the top fifty photographers selected for the Critical Mass book competition in 2008 and one of nine artists chosen by Houston FotoFest curators for the International Discoveries exhibit in 2007. Her work is included in numerous collections including Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Brooklyn Museum, Center for Photography at Woodstock.
George Slade is currently Program Manager/Curator at The Photographic Resource Center, Boston, MA. He was Assistant Curator of Photographs at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and Artistic Director of the Minnesota Center for Photography in Minneapolis.
Maile Meloy (born January 1, 1972) is an American author of fiction.
Meloy won The Paris Review's Aga Khan Prize for Fiction for her story, "Aqua Boulevard," in 2001; the PEN/Malamud Award for her first collection of short stories, Half in Love, in 2003; and a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2004.

Die Gruppen standen geduldig vor ihrer Kamera, während die Serie sich entwickelte. Nichts geschah absichtlich oder mit Plan. Die Bilder zeigen weniger Individuen, sondern gehen vielmehr den Fragen nach, wie wir uns selbst sehen oder was wir empfinden. Einige der Abgebildeten sind Familienmitglieder, etliche sind Freunde, andere kannte die Fotografin nur entfernt. Diese bat sie, ihre Angehörigen oder enge Freunde mitzubringen, Menschen, mit denen sie etwas verbindet. Es war faszinierend zu beobachten, wie sie bestimmte Stellungen einnahmen oder sich gegenüber der Fotografin und der Kamera in Position brachten. Panas stellte fest, dass erst der Blick durch die Kamera ihr die Haltung eines ungezwungenen Beobachters ermöglichte, und es ihr dadurch gelang, etwas von der Beziehung zwischen den Menschen einzufangen - jene unbestimmten Gefühle, die zwischen uns existieren, jene Augenblicke, die wir zwar wahrnehmen, die sich aber in unseren zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen so schwer beschreiben lassen. In diesen Bildern von familiären Be ziehungen sind die Details am wichtigsten. Die Fotografien zeigen zwar bezaubernde Menschen, grüne Landschaften und wunderschönes Licht, aber es sind die kleinen Dinge, die uns Anhaltspunkte dafür liefern, dieses hintergründige Werk intellektuell zu erschließen. The images do not represent individuals so much as they explore the questions of how we see ourselves and what we feel. In these pictures of family relationships, it is the details that matter most. Although they portray engaging people, verdant landscapes and beautiful light, it is the small things in the images that provide us with clues to understand the subtle nature of the work. After twenty years of working exclusively in black and white photography, mostly with her own children, Lydia began inviting other people with whom she was less intimate, to her farm in Pennsylvania, to see what difference this might bring to her work. Some of the models are family, some are friends, some are people she knew less intimately. She asked them to bring along their own family members or close friends, people with whom they shared a history. It was fascinating to see how they took certain positions in relation to one another, to the photographer and to the camera. Panas found that with the camera, she was free to watch and capture a sense of the connections between people, those unclear feelings that exist between us.
