The novel consists of twenty-five stories occurring in the small town of Winesburg. These seemingly independent stories are inextricably linked. Taking young reporter George Willard as an important clue throughout the entire novel, the author portrays many profound figures and makes an exploration of their souls. This book tells: she finds a small secluded place in the woods. Sitting there, she is able to look into the distant city and the large field. She is worrying that she will be unmindful by people as she grows old. Feeling uneasy, she stands up and overlooks the land, when she recalls her passing years with her mind in the cycle of the seasons, which makes she frightened by realizing that: her beautiful and colorful youth has been away from her. She finds for the first time that she is deceived. But she does not blame Ned Currie because she does not know what to blame.
