Franziska Kalch was born in 1983 in Zschopau, Germany, where as a child she wouldn t have swapped her colored pencils for anything. After graduating, she studied visual communication at the Bauhaus-University Weimar, focusing on illustration. Her teachers were Jutta Bauer and Sophie Schmidt, both well-known German illustrators. Soon she developed a love for children s books. In the summer of 2007, Little Old Ladies helped her earn her diploma. Franziska is currently working as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer near Chemnitz, Germany. And she can t get enough of books; her collection of children s titles is growing constantly. When she s not painting or drawing, she is a passionate cook. Cakes and cookies are two of her favorite things to bake.
