Intensiver und aufschlussreicher Briefwechsel zwischen dem Kunstsammler Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler und Peter Ade, dem Ausstellungsleiter des Münchner Haus der Kunst" zwischen Mai 1954 und März 1956. Beiliegend sind auch Durchschläge der Gegenbriefe von Ade. Darin geht es um die Ausstellung Picasso" im Jahr 1955 im Haus der Kunst, bei der das Bild Guernica" erstmals in Deutschland gezeigt wurde.In dem Briefwechsel ersucht das Haus der Kunst unter anderem um das Erlassen einer Gebühr über 7000 DM für den Nachdruck eines Picasso-Bildes im Ausstellungskatalog. Kahnweiler antwortet darauf: Was die Forderung der ,Propriété Artistique betrifft, so habe ich mich sofort mit Picasso in Verbindung gesetzt und hoffe, Ihnen bald tröstliche Mitteilungen machen zu können. [.]"Kahnweiler ist besonders bekannt für seine langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit Pablo Picasso. Sein erstes kunsttheoretisches Buch aus dem Jahr 1920, Der Weg zum Kubismus, beeinflusste das Denken über moderne Kunst. 1907 eröffnete Kahnweiler seine erste kleine Galerie in der Rue Vignon 28 in Paris und schloss umgehend Exklusivverträge mit den Künstlern André Derain, Georges Braque und Maurice de Vlaminck ab. 1911 folgte Pablo Picasso. Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler betreute Picassos Arbeiten sein Leben lang. Von Kahnweiler hat Pablo Picasso zahlreiche Portraits angefertigt, quer durch alle künstlerischen Perioden seines ständig wechselnden Malstils hindurch.Peter Ade (1913-2005) war seit 1950 Geschäftsführer der Ausstellungsleitung und Direktor des Hauses der Kunst. Er organisierte Ausstellungen mit einem Schwerpunkt auf die Klassische Moderne, aber auch kulturhistorische Themen. Ade organisierte ab 1955 nach amerikanischem Vorbild einen Mäzenatenkreis des Hauses der Kunst aus Industrievertretern.
