Libro
Hardcover. Condizione: Fair. First the bad news: the front gutter is badly cracked with the first few signatures loose, and the ornate front board, red with lettering andTudor rose design in gilt, is detached. There is fading along the lower front board facing the injured spine- and staining of lower edges of the first five pages, which include the blank end page and frontis. showing Alnwick Castle, its tissue guard, and the t.p. Now the good news--the remaining 393 p. are immaculate and without any marking of any kind--no former owner's name, not ex-lib. so no library marks or labels, no book seller marks. Lavishly illustrated with photos, engravings, reproductions showing the architecture, treasures and gardens of such houses as Belvoir Castle, Blenheim, Hardwick, Holland House. Chatsworth--many full-page and suitable for framing. There is damage to margins of pp. 164 to 176 (Cawdor Castle) but artwork is not affected. As this is the first ed., it would reward skillful repair and rebinding, which would greatly increase its value. Imperial 8vo.
