Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Illustrated by Allan Rohan Crite (illustratore). Limited Edition. 1st Edition. Revelation was written at the height of Christians prosecution by the Romans and the book as inspired many past literary masterpieces by the likes of Dante and Milton. For this edition the great American artist Allan Rohan Crite was inspired to produce fifteen relief engravings for possibly the ultimate illustrated edition of the book of Revelations. Revelations passionately speak against the power of evil and encourage Christians to resist even at the cost of martyrdom. Many critics considers this to be Crite's finest religious work. One volume (16 x 22 inches) Relief engravings were printed on Japanese paper and mounted on heavy paper handmade in Pescia Italy. Volume is handbound in burgundy linen and the solander box covered in black Italian cotton. The inset is Nigerian goatskin and the title stamped in 22-karat gold. The book is in NF condition with a few slight marks visible on the cover, but internally clean and Fine. The box also showing slight fading and general wear and in NF condition. The original Monthly letter #575 laid in with the original LEC invoice for $3000. ; Relief; Folio 13" - 23" tall; Signed by Illustrator.

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Two pen and ink drawings. Each is 5.75" x 8.75". Each is initialed "ARC" in the lower righthand corner. Labeled "Mothers" in pencil on the versos. The first image depicts a weeping young elephant rubbing its bottom, while a hippopotamus sits in the sun fanning itself, holding a belt, with which one can assume the young elephant was chastised. Two very small tears in the margin, slight toning, near fine. The second image depicts a seated ape, with pipe and glasses, with *The Boston Post* newspaper on the ground, paddling the bottom of the same unfortunate young elephant. There is some offsetting and toning on the image, very good. Crite was a New Jersey-born Afriican-American artist who lived in Boston, and was best known for his religious and spiritual images. He had a number of major exhibitions including the Harmon Foundation, Museum of Modern Art, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and The Boston Athenaeum.

Prima edizione Copia autografata
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. First edition. Quarto. Illustrated. Light stain at the top of the front board near the crown, a very good copy lacking the dust jacket. Three traditional spirituals illustrated with Crite's trademark Black angels. A beautiful copy of this title and scarce thus. This copy nicely Inscribed by Crite: "To Father and Ruth Leach, Gabriella and Jay from Allan Rohan Crite. A.R.C. 6 May 1951." Additionally Crite has elaborately decorated the front fly and the half title with two detailed full-page pen and ink drawings. The first drawing surrounds the gift inscription with nine winged angels in front of an altar and is Signed by Crite a second time, dating the drawing in 1952. The second, which is unsigned, shows the Virgin Mary with the crowned and newly born baby Jesus receiving six children and being overseen by three winged angels. Additionally there is a faint beginning of a pencil sketch on the front pastedown. Crite was known to inscribe books with small sketches, but this is by far the most elaborately decorated copy of one of his books that we've seen.
