Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. Volume 1 only of a two volume edition of David Copperfield. A vintage reprint (circa early 20th Century) but no edition / printing / print date is stated. A VG- hardcover in no dust jacket (if issued). While not bright white and with a few instances where the pages open all the way to the binding, the contents (486 + a frontispiece and 16 additional illustrations) appear mark free, fully legible, complete, and securely bound. Green cloth with dull gilt lettering and lines on the spine. Lightly bumped and rubbed in the extremities and at the spine's head and tail edges. Very light rubbing along some edges. The surface of the covers has light rubbing and perhaps a touch of dust staining from shelf wear along with slight variations in the surface sheen. No ex-library markings!.

Household Edition. A large format edition of Dickens' works, printed in double column. Barnard was commissioned by the publishers to illustrate 9 of Dickens' works, he concentrated on illustrating scenes other than those that Browne and Dickens had chosen to portray in earlier illustrated editions. However, Barnard also had to seamlessly blend the characters as visualised by Browne with his own style, trying not to deviate too much from their established appearance. 1225 grams.
