Large octavo. Original publisher's gray cloth-backed illustrated dark ivory and sage green wrappers. 1f. (recto title within decorative border, verso blank), 1f. (recto dedication, verso cast list and contents in Italian and German), 3-233, [i] (publisher's catalogue) pp. Wrappers slightly worn. Minor browning; corners very slightly creased. First Edition. A "mystery" to text by L. Orsini for solo voices, chorus, orchestra, and organ, the present work was first performed in 1914. "Giovanna d'Arco, the most dramatic of [Bossi's] choral works, suggests that he had more sense of the theatre than his operas revealed . With Martucci and Sgambati, Bossi led the revival of Italian non-operatic music at the turn of the century, and, like them, he turned to northern Europe for the main sources of his style ." John C.G. Waterhouse in Grove Music Online.
