Illustrated with numerous full-page drawings of children, their teachers, and their parents. One of the poems reads: "No Fun to Be a Girl. I don't see why I can't do things like a boy but mama, when I try boy-fashion to slide, says all of her teaching I simply de-stroy an' wants me to know that she feels horrified! Just wait! I'll grow up to a voter some day an' first thing I do will be slide just that way." A collection of poetry and drawings published before women could vote across the country, speaking to societal issues that Americans faced at the turn of the century. Very Good with rubbing to the edges revealing the corners and a small concavity to the spine.

Boards. Condizione: Very good +. Clare BRIGGS (illustratore). [HUMOR]. [Clare] BRIGGS, illustrator. Later printing. 8vo oblong (8 11/16" x 11 7/8"); [124]pp; stiff tan board, lettering in red and black, a vignette of a boy shouting is pictured on the left of the front board; green cloth shelf-back; title page in red and black; cartoon illustrations are accompanied by a verse on the opposite page; light wear to boards; very good plus. (Overstreet, 51st ed. p351.). Humorous verse accompanies the cartoons drawn by Clare Briggs. Writing in a vernacular American voice, Wilbur Nesbit (1791-1938), a Midwest newspaperman, poet, and humorist, captures the speech and emotions of childhood with his short verse. Briggs (1875-1930) was a cartoonist during The Platinum Age of the American Comic Book (1883-1938). A Mid-west native, his career started as a newspaper sketch artist; later he authored several successful cartoon strips. In this publication, his drawings show the playfulness and exuberance of children's lives. In the preface, the printer addresses the new book owners, "Oh, Skin-Nay! YOO HOO! Here's a reg'lar book about our Days of Real Sport. I betcha your pa an' ma will be as tickled with it as you an' me is. Gee! It's got pitchers in it that seems like they wuz drawed right on th' spot by that feller Briggs an'ever' pitcher has a reg'lar little pome writ along with it by that feller Nesbit an' both o'them wuz reely boys oncet, just like any other boy. An'it's got up in a book by them fellers, the P.F. Volland Company an' it's dedducated to All Us Fellers!".
