Er gilt als Sinnbild des Verführers. 1760 besuchte er Voltaire in Genf. Seit diesem Jahr nannte sich Casanova auch Chevalier de Seingalt", ein Name, den er bis an sein Lebensende immer wieder benutzte. Im gleichen Jahr traf er in Rom Papst Clemens XIII., Johann Joachim Winckelmann und Anton Raphael Mengs, bei dem er wohnte. Über Brüssel, Wesel, Braunschweig und Wolfenbüttel kam er im Sommer 1764 nach Sanssouci, wo er bei Friedrich dem Großen um eine Anstellung bat. Die ihm angebotene Position als Lehrmeister an der Schule für pommersche Landjunker lehnte er jedoch ab und fuhr nach Russland, in der Hoffnung, eine Stellung am Zarenhof zu bekommen (Wikipedia).
