Cloth. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. Illus. by J. NOEL PATON (illustratore). First Edition Thus. Narrative poem. First Edn. Thus, 1863; full maroon cloth; plain borders blind-stamped to front/rear boards; titling/plain rule/illus. (snake/crossbow/cross/stars) blocked in gilt (quite bright) to front board; all edges gilt (slightly dulled); cream endpapers; [ii]+12pp. + 20 plates (lithography by W.H. McFarlane, Edinburgh). Slightly faded spine lightly worn at top/tail, but complete/intact; rear board has small, shallow impression; slightly soiled boards slightly worn at corners, but quite bright; crinkles to front paste-down endpaper (manufacturing defect); very creased front free-endpaper has tear (approx. 30mm) to fore-edge and tears (max. approx. 30mm) to bottom edge; moderate browning to title page, but text fresh; vertical crease to rear endpaper; sporadic light (occasionally moderate) foxing to occasional plates (mainly to borders, and not disfiguring); moderate foxing to Plate 20 (mainly to verso), but pages overall clean/bright/very crisp. Binding secure, all complete/intact. No inscriptions.
