Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. LETTERS & EMAIL: 19 typed letters & email; 4 hand-written signed letters. Forming a dialogue between Christopher Rush & Felix Dennis, with additional correspondence from Caroline Rush, Selina Robinson, & Kerin O/Connor (publisher for The Week magazine.) Includes a Letter of Agreement for 2013/2014 Literary Projects. In excess of 5000 words. A collection of both short purposeful letters & emails concerning work projects, together with openly frank personal letters from Christopher Rush describing his personal situation & requesting employment. Includes a CV for Rush together with reviews for his publication of 'Will' a novel based on the final days of Shakespeare's life. Correspondence includes an assessment of Rush's predicament by Selina Robinson, with advice to Dennis on how to help. Rush had purchased a house with serious faults, needing major repairs which would mean temporary accommodation, aborted projects, & financial difficulty. He hoped Dennis could provide him with literary projects to see him through hard times: "I'm in hell. A sea of raw sewage underneath the floorboards.I do still want to do Edinburgh & Glasgow with him & wish I could hug the old dog & anaesthetise the pain." "Dear Caroline, Things are not good" copied on paper advertising Felix Dennis' 'Did I Mention the Free Wine? The Cut Throat Tour.' The collection tracks the development of the initial discovery of disaster through to contracts of work & production of drafts for the proposed projects. Closing with an earnest: "OK- I've worked like stink- work is the best escape from life- and I am well ahead of schedule. I have the first version of Selected, for which I've written a substantial Introduction.shall I carry on tinkering.I imagine he may well prefer to concentrate on getting the 4-L's package right.?" BOOK: 'New Words in Classic Guise: An Introduction to the Poetry of Felix Denis' by Christopher Rush. Noctura Press 2011. Slim 8vo.pp.48. Condition: very good, with slight wear to covers. Frontispiece b/w portrait illustration of Felix Denis by Bill Sanderson. Matching b/w portrait illustration of Christopher Rush by Bill Sanderson facing the Introduction. DRAFT FOR 4 BOOK SET OF POETRY: 'Poetry of Love, Laughter, Life, and Loss' by Felix Denis. Selected & Introduced by Christopher Rush. Draft form for four small format books of poetry; typed & stapled in three sections: CONTENTS LIST 'Poems of Love' 'Poems of Laughter' 'Poems of Life' & 'Poems of Loss.' INTRODUCTION: 'Love' 'Laughter' Life' & 'Loss.' From 'Loss:' "The 'flight' is both literal & figurative, a death metaphor, like the 'long descent' recalling the soul's 'longer flight' glanced at by Marvell in his Garden. Dennis' intimations of mortality are just as disturbing, & yet as beautifully controlled." THEMES, Jan 2014: analysing selected poems as 'A Bowl of Quince' from 'Life:' "Ah, sweet mystery of life! Hope springs infernal. Nature the Healer. Nature's triumph." LITERARY PROJECTS 2013 / 2014: Two copies; 'File' & Caroline Rush's personal copy. A 'List of Matters' & 8 pages of typed correspondence relating to 3 projects: A box set of four small books, each of 40 poems with individual themes of Love,Laughter, Life, & Loss; an update of poems on the Dennis website; work on a selected book of 150 poems 'Never Go Back.' HUMOROUS CARD: illustration of a squirrel facing a publisher's criticism of his manuscript. Hand-written note to "Felix.5th April 2013." Signed "Chris." CHRISTOPHER RUSH was born in the Fife fishing village of St Monans in 1944. He read English at the University of Aberdeen & taught English in Edinburgh for thirty years. The semi-autobiographical A Twelvemonth & a Day, 1985, was selected as one of the 100 Greatest Scottish books ever. (The List, 2005.) Twelvemonth and a Day was also made into a film 'Venus Peter.' Christopher Rush has twice won Scottish Arts Council Book Awards, and was short-listed for the McVitieÕs Prize for Scottish Writer of the Year. 'Poet's Play List' by Christopher Rush on the work of Felix Dennis was published in 2011. FELIX DENNIS (1947Ð2014) was an English publisher, poet, spoken-word performer & philanthropist. His company, Dennis Publishing, pioneered computer & hobbyist magazine publishing in the UK. In 1967, Dennis began selling copies of OZ magazine in London's Kings Road. Later, he became a designer and worked with Jon Goodchild, the magazine's art director. In 1969, Dennis wrote a world exclusive for OZ, the first ever review of Led Zeppelin's debut album. He was quickly promoted to co-editor & became involved in the longest conspiracy trial in English history over the infamous "Schoolkids OZ" issue. In 1973, following acquittal by the Court of Appeal, Dennis founded his own magazine publishing company Cozmic Comics/H. Bunch Associates (1972-1975.) Dennis was the second publisher of Personal Computer World (later sold to VNU) & aslo established MacUser (later sold to Ziff Davis Publishing.) In 1987, he co-founded MicroWarehouse, with Peter Godfrey & Bob Bartner. In 1995, Dennis Publishing created Maxim, a title that became the world's biggest selling men's lifestyle magazine and global brand. Dennis remained the sole owner of Dennis Publishing, and with offices in both London and New York City, with over 50 magazine titles, digital magazines, websites & mobile sites in the UK including The Week, Auto Express, PC Pro, CarBuyer and Viz he had become seriously rich. In 2001, while at hospital, Dennis wrote his first poem on a post-it note. Within a year, he wrote his first book of verse A Glass Half Full (Hutchinson.) The launch was accompanied by the first of Dennis's UK-wide poetry reading tours entitled "Did I Mention the Free Wine?" Audiences were offered fine French wine from Dennis's personal cellar while watching him perform his poetry on stage. Dennis's poetry was featured on radio interviews and in the national press, and was the subject of television documentaries in both the UK and US. Very good.
