Elephant folio - 17-1/2" x 11-3/8". 20 pp. The Black Panther Black Community News Service was a weekly newspaper published by the Black Panther Party between 1967-1980. Each issue featured a range of articles and op-eds on the activities of the party, Black Power, police brutality, communism, party leadership, etc. The back of most issues featured revolutionary artwork by the graphic artist and Black Panther Minister of Culture, Emory Douglas. The front page of this issue features the images of two Native Americans, one of whom is Geronimo. Inside one will find "Huey P. Newton Political Prisoner," "Panthers Seeking to Initiate 'Breakfast for School Children'," "Ericka's Poem," a powerful Black revolutionary poem by Ericka Huggins, "Open Warfare in Berkeley," "Persecution of Nevada Indians," the centerfold spread "Slavery in South America," "Revolution Emerges in Haiti," and "The Just Struggle of the Afro-Americans is Sure to Win - Commemorating the First Anniversary of Chairman Mao's Statement in Support of the Afro-American Struggle Against Violent Repression." The back page features a full page illustration of the Apache Chief Geronimo on horseback under the revolutionary heading "There Can Never Be Peace Between the Slave and the Slave Master Until the Master is Dead or the Slave Is Free;" the paper is age-tanned and folded as issued, with light spotting to the front and back pages, minor wear to the horizontal fold on page 1, a small dampstain to the upper edge of most pages and evidence of previous insect infestation which resulted in minor losses to the lower margin of most pages. The condition of the newspaper is GOOD. SCARCE.
