ÔSpartacusÕ is based on the novel by Howard Fast, directed by Stanley Kubrick with a screenplay by Dalton Trumbo, starring Kirk Douglas in the title role, with an all-star cast including Laurence Olivier, Tony Curtis (as Antoninus), Jean Simmons, Charles Laughton, Peter Ustinov, John Gavin (as Julius Caesar), Nina Foch, John Ireland. The film won Oscars Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Peter Ustinov), Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Color, Best Cinematography, Color, and Best Costume Design, Color. It was nominated for Oscars for Best Film Editing and Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture.
