Original blue, blind stamped cloth with gilt title on the spine. Dark green endpapers. = A fine, well-illustrated monograph of this noxious insect, dealing with its classification, life-history, morphology, physiology, histology, development, distribution, and even with "myths connected with Eristalis". Concluded with an index. Fore edge uncut and a trifle spotted; front board spotted; text and plates generally clean. A very good copy. Very uncommon.

lxxviii, 134, 211 p, with a total of 74 coloured lithographed plates and 8 plain plates, original uniform blue cloth with gilt title on spines. A major revision. All plates that should be coloured are so indeed. Uncut, partly unopened. Bookplate on the front pastedowns, label on spine's foot. top of spine a bit frayed. Some text pages and two plates slightly foxed, mainly in the margins, otherwise very good with clean plates. Nissen ZBI, 660.
Hardcover. 1st Edition. 8vo. 1st ed. 21.5 x 13.5 cms. 2 vols. 82 litho plates. Vol 1 plates 1-38 (coloured), plates A-C (uncoloured). vol 2 Plates 39-40 (coloured), plates 41-74 (uncoloured), plates D-H (uncoloured). Later but not recent rebind in library buckram. Ex library set with usual marks but not on text or plates. The 74 numbered plates are usually found either all coloured or all plain, this set appears to be a combination of the two versions.
lxxviii + 133 + 206 p - 8 plain + 74 col. plates - in 2 vols original cloth (small tear at the bottom front corner of vol.1) - rare.
