In 1840 she published this work, which served as a travelogue and an account of her archaeological research during a visit to Italy between 1837 and 1839. As a woman, Gray was attacked for conducting historical research by men who shared her profession.To the front pastedown is the armorial bookplate of Stafford H. Northcote, a British Conservative politician who served as the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Foreign Secretary. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumped extremities and spine tail.
