Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Presumed first edition (no additional printings listed). Hardcover, approximately 5 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches, original cloth spine and paste-down paper covered boards with a color drawing of a girl and a birdcage on front board, and publisher's ads on rear, 64 pp, illustrated with 8 hand colored plates, including title page, (all present) . Good, no dustjacket. Corners bumped with cardboard exposed there and at spots along edges of boards, with a few drop marks and scuff marks. Internally, remnant of small Christmas label on paste-down front endpaper, front and rear hinges cracked, missing first free front endpaper (starts with frontispiece) , free rear endpaper partially stuck to paste-down, with glue marks and a tear in gutters, tear in gutter of adjoining leaf (text unaffected) , some stray foxing, otherwise tight, clean, relatively crisp and unmarked. Poems on flowers, nature, and occasionally the less pleasant side of Victorian life such as encounter with a beggar girl, a chimney sweep boy out in the cold, and the wanton killing of birds with a bow and arrow.
