His main research topics were the language, literature and religious history of the Hurrians and Hittites. Haas was considered one of the most renowned specialists in the field of Hethitology. In addition to the projects mentioned Haas also researched the ancient Near Eastern religions, Hittite healing and worked on a history of Hittite literature. Haas was editor of the journal ' Altorientalische Forschungen. ' --- Aus der Bibliothek des Altorientalisten Volkert Haas. 3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, lightly aged. In envelope addressed by Forbes-Robertson at 79 Netherwood Road, Shepherd's Bush. He thanks him for letting him have his address, and requests a pass for his servant for the following evening's performance of the play 'Mice and Men'. He hopes the servant will return with 'the news I desire viz that you will consent to being pro tem - one of the Hon Secs of the Te Deum Committee. The duties connected with the work - are - nil - as I should manage what was necessary - but we must have some names - for show - and everyone is out of Town.' He is writing to Charles Edward Jerningham at White's, 'to ask him to tell me of some one who though not actually paid would not mind deriving benefit from connection with the Influential Committee we shall soon obtain'. He asks to be sent 'a word to say - Yes', and will 'look in the Morng Post tomorrow to see if there are any letters about the Te Deum'. Harford, was a poet, hymn writer, amateur musician, and friend of the artist Gustave Doré. He served as a Minor Canon of Westminster Abbey (1861), and was later at St. Margaret and St. John the Evangelist, Westminster (1881), and at the Close of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, London (1901).
