No Binding. Condizione: Very Good. Drawn By Spy (illustratore). First. A fine original colour lithograph from Vanity Fair, a magazine which was published from 1869-1914, featuring a large caricature portrait each week. These were drawn by various artists, the most famous of whom was Leslie Ward who used the 'nom de crayon' of "Spy". This portrait will come mounted/matted and ready to frame using archivist quality materials, mount size 18 x 12 inches, 47 x 31 cms. It will be presented in a cellophane wrapper with our label guaranteeing authenticity. We pack very well, between sheets of hardboard. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a portrait of the Hon Colonel John MacDonald. With caption "The Lord Advocate" and accompanying biographical details. The Right Honourable Sir John Hay Athole Macdonald KCB (27 December 1836 - 9 May 1919) was a Scottish politician and later a judge.

viii+412 pp. illustrated, tissue guarded frontispiece, coloured map of the South China sea, spine faded and restored, new endpapers. slight staining to a few pages near front, otherwise good. Dalrymple Hay, 1821-1912, served in the British Navy between 1834 and 1859, in S. Africa, Syria, China and Crimea. He was a Conservative M.P. for Wakefield and later Wigton Burghs, and between 1866-68 one of the Lords of the Admiralty. The book contains, as loose inserts three autographed letters from him to his nephew and nephew's wife, Ernest and Alice Hayes, living in Belfast, and possibly working for Harland and Wolff Shipyard, about visiting Belfast, mostly in association with meetings of the Institute of Naval Architects. These are dated 1june 1903, 6 june 1903 and 5 aug. 1904. Condition very good.

Suede Wraps. Condizione: Near Very Good. A beautiful copy of this treasured story with decorative type throughout and some illustrations. Soft reddish/brown suede covers with gilt lettering. Covers show light wear; small black mark on rear cover near bottom of spine; slight sunning to spine; dedication from former owner on ffep; charming quote written in ink on rear free endpaper;front hinge partly detached, nevertheless pages secure; else a lovely copy. Printed by the Roycrofters, at their shop in East Aurora, Erie County, NY in April, 1906.
