Hardcover. Condizione: very good. Condizione sovraccoperta: very good. First edition. There were many who said Northfield, MA was heaven on earth. For the author as a child shortly after the turn of the 20th century, it was all of that. In 1928, Mabie met Amelia Earhart. She collaborated with Earhart on a number of writing projects until Earhart's disappearance in 1937. Mabie also collaborated with George Palmer Putnam, Earhart's husband, on a biography of Earhart entitled Soaring Wings. Their collaboration ended in controversy and the book was never published. Jacket has chips and tears taped at the bottom of the spine. First edition. 5½" - 7½". book.

Condizione: Near Fine. First Edition. First Edition. An archive of material related to American Inventor John Hays Hammond, Jr. The archive includes 4 letters to Janet Mabie (of Eaton Centre, New Hampshire) all from 1935. 2 comment on a Mr. Lear "who curiously enough is in the same situation that I am in regard to the Navy and foreign patents. Perhaps we may be able to work together to break up this ridiculous threat upon the part of the Navy Department." The other 2 related to Miss Mabie gathering notes for "magazine use" and Hammond setting up a meeting between Mabie and Herbert Stone of Yachting magazine. In addition to these letters, there is an 8 page carbon typescript (8 1/2 x 11 inches) about Hammond by Mabie that is quite interesting, giving insights into Hammond as a person and inventor. It is a fascinating read, and no doubt would add (if not published, which we have not been able to confirm one way or the other) to the portrait of Hammond known today. Lastly the archive contains 2 black and white photographs of portions of Hammond's Castle in Gloucester Mass, called Abbadia Mare. Hammond built this eclectic mansion, which stands still today as a museum. Hammond was an American Inventor with a large number of patents, second only to Edison himself. His work was very eclectic, although he was perhaps best known for his work in radio controlled operation of various kinds. Some have termed him the Father of Radio Control.
