Libro Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition. Cover title is: "The Works, Days, and Theogony of Hesiod - Engraved from the Compositions of John Flaxman R.A.". Contains 37 b&w plates, including illustrated title page, all with printed captions, as issued. All full-page plates printed on recto only. Verso blank. Designed by John Flaxman. "John Flaxman R.A. (1755-1826) was a British sculptor and draughtsman, and a leading figure in British and European Neoclassicism. Early in his career he worked as a modeller for Josiah Wedgwood's pottery. He spent several years in Rome, where he produced his first book illustrations. He was a prolific maker of funerary monuments." John Flaxman was a friend of William Blake. Engraved by MADe Soyer. Originally engraved in 1817 by William Blake, this 1845 edition is engraved by Mademoiselle Soyer (presumably 19th-century French engraver Charlotte Louise Soyer). No date (1845). Oblong volume. Bound in publisher's original blue buckram, black lettering to front board, gilt lettering to spine, front board with black border, rear board border in blind, green endpapers. No dustjacket.
