Cloth. Condizione: Very Good. None (illustratore). An early American edition of this satirical parody of the work of the Victorian era school of Spadmodic poets. The second US edition of this dramatic verse from Scottish poet and lawyer William Edmonstoune Aytoun, writing under the pen name T. Percy Jones.A mock-tragedy, the work parodies the work of the Spasmodic poets, satirising the group of poets and critics that included Alexander Smith, George Gilfillan and Sydney Thompson Dobell. This work is widely credited for playing a decisive role in the termination of the school of poetry, with it abruptly falling out of fashion in the late 1850s.The term 'Spasmodic poet' was coined by Aytoun himself, with derogatory and humorous intention. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Fading to back strip, with bumping to spine head and tail. Front joint starting, with board holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Very Good. book.
