A wonderful chronicle of the innovative liberal arts school Black Mountain College in North Carolina, founded in 1933 and, sadly, closing in 1957. Some of its very impressive faculty and guest lecturers over the years included Buckminster Fuller, Merce Cunningham, John Cage, Josef and Anni Albers, Eric Bentley, Harry Callahan, Robert Creeley, Willem de Kooning, Robert Rauschenberg, Robert Duncan, Walter Gropius, Alfred Kazin, Franz Kline, Jacob Lawrence, Charles Olson, M. C. Richards, Albert William Levi, Ben Shahn, Arthur Siegel, Aaron Siskind, Robert Motherwell, Albert Einstein, Clement Greenberg, Bernard Rudofsky, Richard Lippold and William Carlos Williams.
