Loose_leaf. Condizione: poor to fine. First edition. Folio. (1) 20 plates (14 3/4 x 11") with tissue guards. Original brown paper portfolio with string ties and silver framed original pochoir mounted to cover; silver lettering. Delightful and elegant female attires commemorating the centennial of romanticism on 20 pochoir plates. The beautiful dresses are worn by women and girls, mostly in small social groups suggesting activities of leisure and culture, e.g. piano play, horseback riding, the opera, painting, or simply meetings or strolls for mundane reasons; one of the dresses shown is a wedding dress. Seventeen of the plates and the pochoir on the cover with signature of artist in plate. The plates are divided into five groups of four dated 1830, the era of the Leghorn straw cabriolet hat, 1835, 1840, 1845, and 1850. All plates with captions in French and English with one additional text plate providing a brief excursion into the spirit of Romanticism. Text in French and English. Portfolio cover and all three inside flaps detached but present with heavy chipping at spine; string ties intact. Some light staining and rubbing on cover with back cover lightly sunned. Light, insignificant creasing along edges of plates and tissue guards, light age-toning. Portfolio in poor, plates in good+, artwork in fine condition.
