This is a beautifully written novel of life on a great Spanish hacienda (Acuichal) in Northern Mexico. It is a story of strong men and strong horses told with restraint and power. The ?Hands of Cantu? refers to hands of Don Vito Cantu, the finest horseman in New Spain, into whose hands is put custody of a young Toribio de Ibarra who Cantu turns into one of the finest horsemen in Mexico.
