Illus., 8 x 6", pict brown cloth, 477pp + 37pp + publ. ads, covers rubbed, extremities bumped and fraying, small hole in spine near top, ink date stamp (April 17, 1896, Kansas City, MO) on front fly, pp toned; a rather SCARCE title, in decent shape. 37pp ad in back "Teaching the Deaf to Speak, The Teeth the Best Medium and the Audiphone the Best Instrument for Conveying Sounds to the Deaf, and in Teaching the Partly Deaf and Dumb to Speak." The Audiphone was made by Rhodes (the publisher); it looked like a big fan that was held in the hand and between the teeth (no pictures of it here, though.).
