The 202 pages (incl. INDEX) cover the sheltering and physical support of its citizens by the city of Bristol during the WWII air-raids. On a physical level there was fire fighting, rubble clearing, safety of school children, and maintaining a supply of potable water to contend with. But on a psychological level there were the questions of morale, fear of attack, generosity, complaints and structured relaxation programs. Wartime acts of sharing were legion :among citizens, to and from neighbouring cities, as well as to and from soldiers. Learn more about why tickets had to be issued for Portway Tunnel, or why the home for bombed children was called Arcadia Bellows. TEXT complemented by `official' b/w photographs. Cond : Boards are black with gilt lettering on spine only. Dust jacket is white yellow and black. D.J. graphic is a training session photo for the Home Guard.
