Significant fading to cloth and gilt lettering, especially on spine; some scratching and shelf wear; spine is cocked; mild soiling. No dust jacket. Some page gutters are cracked, but binding is still fairly tight. Page 249/250 was badly torn and repaired with tape. Previous owner's name in marker on recto of frontispiece (over portrait of Gatewood). Interior has minor creasing and toning to rear endpapers. Includes a large section with over 100 black-and-white photos on plates. Also features a color illustration of Geronimo on the front pastedown and two black-and-white portraits (one of Lt. Charles B. Gatewood and one of the author) as the frontispiece. This book by a veteran of the Apache Wars relates the author's experiences fighting against Geronimo in Arizona and New Mexico. Contains newspaper clippings about the book from unknown source and date, and about Geronimo from the Kansas City Star 1935. Inside board on taped down endpaper is a prior owner's name. On the free endpaper is a stamp: April 20, 1926, then penciled in name followed by 1954. Extremely nice copy with some articles laid inside, with one lightly taped to pasted down endpaper. "Anton Mazzanovich was an author, thespian, and soldier who served with Troop F of the 6th Cavalry from 1881-82 in both Arizona and New Mexico. Mazzanovich later wrote several books on life in the West and went on to work in New York as a stage carpenter and mechanic in local theater companies.
