Profusely illustrated with charts and nautical tables. Captain Edmund McNevin was born in Ireland left for the US in 1847 on The Great Western. For nearly twenty-five years he commanded a variety of ships. He moved to San Francisco in 1874 and opened a school for Navigation. This is one of several authoritative nautical works he published. ##### Condition: Fair. Substantial wear to covers, large 2 chip missing at top of spine. Text block is clean and tight overall, with only occasional light soiling or foxing. The insert at front has McNevin s business stamp at upper right. E. McNevin, Marine Surveyor and Expert. He left for the US in 1847 on The Great Western - one of the very first steamers to cross the ocean. In 1852, he was in command of the Davenport, and for 18 years he sailed all over the world in command of different ships. McNevin moved to San Francisco in 1874 and opened his highly regarded Navigation School. He also wrote several authoritative nautical navigation works, the present one being one of his best. He was rumored to had had one of the finest collections of nautical books and instruments. Uncommon book with only two other copies in the trade. 2.
