Rusk, Secretary of Agriculture [letter of transit page] of first paper (North American Fauna No. 3). ** Cornelis Botke (1887-1954) born in Leeuwarden, Holland. He studied at the School for Applied Design in Haarlem, Holland, and the Chicago Art Institute. Botke married Jessie Arms in April 1915 and moved to Carmel-by-the-Sea, California in 1919 and became influential figures in the local art colony. He was a member of the American Society of Etchers, the Society of American Graphic Artists, and the California Watercolor Society. He and his wife moved to Santa Paula, California in 1927. ** Harvey Monroe Hall (1874-1932) was an American botanist particularly noted for his taxonomic work in the Western United States. Hall went to work for ecologist Frederic Clements at the Carnegie Institution Division of Plant Sciences at Stanford University in 1919 in an effort to explore experimental methods of taxonomy. In 1928, Carnegie president John Merriam sent Hall to Europe for a year to study national parks. His report suggested the creation of natural reserves with national parks for the purpose of scientific study.
