Orig. purple-brown cloth; well-executed repairs to hinges. The first edition of Forbes's translation was published in 1846. Mir Amman was employed at Fort William College, Calcutta; he translated from Persian Qissa Chahar Dervish, The Tale of the Four Dervishes by Amir Khusro (Abu'l Hasan Yam n ud-D n Khusrau (1253 1325) into Urdu in c.1805. Duncan Forbes, 1798-1868, also at one time at Fort William College, was a reknowned Scottish linguist; his Hindustani works are advertised on the endpapers.
