Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Original sky blue cloth in landscape format 42 x 31cm with metal clasp, silver titled with Iran's Lion and Sun emblem to the front. This contains 107 original uncaptioned photos of which 95 b/w and 12 mounted colour (each image approx 30 x 24cm). Album very good, lightly dusted with the emblem partially faded. The photos generally very good with some wear at the edges and gentle rippling. The first five images showing the Shah receiving Todorov are blind-stamped with the Iranian seal of state to the lower right, the first of which has been signed by the Shah "M.R. Pahlavi". The photos show in close-up the arrival, welcomes, high level meetings and social gatherings (many with Iranian Prime Minister Amir Abbas Hoveyda), visits to important pre-Islamic and Islamic sites, industrial sites, and cultural events including a display of Persian wrestling. This album would have been formally prepared as a memento of a visit that aimed to consolidate the reestablishment of cordial ties between the two countries. Iran and Bulgaria first established relations in 1897. Under pressure from Britain and the USSR, Iran had ended them in 1941 when Bulgaria entered WW2 on the side of the Axis. Rapprochement began in 1961, with Bulgaria opening a Legation in Tehran in 1963. This was upgraded to an Embassy led by a Charge d'affaires in 1964, and an Ambassador from 1968. Stanko Todorov Georgiev (1920-96) had recently become Prime Minister (1971-80). The parties discussed economic, scientific and technical cooperation, and cultural exchange. Todor Zhivkov's visit followed in 1974, which reached agreements on trade, economic cooperation and transport. Signed by Author(s).
