Morley and containing illustrations from the photography of J.S. Hodgson.Including forty-seven illustrations from photographs, a diagram, and a folding map of the polar regions to the front pastedown and front free-endpaper.The personal copy of renowned British zoologist Leonard Harrison Matthews, known for his work on marine mammals, noted by his stamp to one of the front free-endpapers.This copy came from the library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire, the previous home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). She was an English socialite and through her mother was the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, some shelf wear and slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Cloth to the spine is faded. Previous bookseller's small sticker to the front pastedown. Stamp of Leonard Harrison Matthews to one of the front free-endpapers. Internally, generally firmly bound. Some spotting to the pages, more prominent to the first and last few pages as well as to the fore-edge. Good. book.
