Margaret Hardenbroek Phillipse (1637-1691) was considered the wealthiest woman in early colonial New York having inherited a fortune from her merchant first husband and afterward marrying another wealthy merchant Frederick Phillipse. The party also spent some time in New Jersey. After leaving New York, the group traveled south to the Chesapeak Bay and Delaware and Maryland before returning to New York.
