Libro Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. The Bark Covered House, or, Back in the Woods Again; Being a Graphic and Thrilling Description of Real Pioneer Life in the Wilderness of Michigan was written by William Nowlin, Esq. and is illustrated with some older black-and-white pen-and-inks (?) with no credit given to the illustrator that I can find. The book was published by William Nowlin in 1876 and appears to be a First Edition though it's not specifically stated as such. (It was "printed for the author" at the Herald Publishing House in Detroit, Michigan.) It's NOT an ex-library copy but it IS only in good condition. It is 140, or so, years old. It's a hard cover book with no dust jacket in good condition. There was a piece of tape on the spine that once held the cloth on the spine. It was old, "brittled itself away" and the cloth was loose, so I Elmered it back on. (This is a classic. The next owner might well choose to have it rebound by a professional who can make the book even more valuable. The text and end pages are all quite capable of being kept and "helped.") The book is 5 1/2" by 7 3/4", and has 250 pages with a Table of Contents and the fore-mentioned black-and-white illustrations. There are a few foxing spots, a few pencil marks where an enterprising child tried to duplicate the page number at the to of the page. They could be erased but I'm not the one that is going to do it. All things considered this is a nice, well preserved older copy. I can send pictures of anything you'd like if you request. By the author, from the Preface: "This is a labor of love, written to perpetuate the memory of some most noble lives, among whom were my father and mother who sought a home in the forests of Michigan at an early day. Being then quite young, I kept no record of dates or occurrences, and this book is mostly sketched from memory. It is a history of my parents' struggles and triumphs in the wilderness. It ought to encourage all who read it, since not many begin life in a new country with fewer advantages than they." Thank you!.
