The author's letters were written to her mother. "In spite of necessary omissions they may throw some light on the difficulties of the Mexican situation, which we have made our own, and which every American wishes to see solved in a way that will testify to the persistence of those qualities that made us great." [from the Foreword] The author, Edith O'Shaughnessy (1876-1939), was a journalist, screenwriters, and biographer. Her husband, Nelson O'Shaughnessy (1876-1932), was the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim at the American embassy in Mexico City. In Good Condition: corners rubbed; loss at head of spine; lacking much of gilt from cover; cover is lightly soiled; back hinge weak; pages are clean and tight.
