Hardcover. 12mo. Black paper over boards. 36pp. Good plus. Both endpapers and initial flyleaves dampstained about the edges. A tight and decent first edition of this satirical poem read at an annual meeting of the only social club at Harvard Law School. Plimpton (1900-83) was a New York attorney and diplomat and father of journalist/author/actor/George Plimpton. He was also, as it happens, one of the Harvard roommates of future Illinois governor and two-time Democratic presidential candidate Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65) -- though Stevenson attended only briefly, for he found the law boring and dropped out after failing some courses (later resuming and getting his degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1926). This unique copy belonged to Stevenson, though not bearing his ownership signature. From the library of the governor's son, Illinois senator Adlai E. Stevenson III. Interestingly, in 1961 Stevenson (then U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations) had his old law school roomie appointed to the U.S. delegation to the U.N. A lovely association copy.
