First edition. Folio (31 x 45 cm); [8] pp.; 90 plates from photographs, loose in portfolio as issued. Owner's stamp to front pastedown; some sooling to top edge of letterpress; tear to rear joint of portfolio cover; plates clean and bright; a good copy or better in original cloth-backed printed boards with one string tie lacking. A collection of plates, mostly of interior details and furniture, as found in fine American houses of the Colonial era, showing interiors and furniture very desirable during the early 20th century, near the peak of the colonial revival. From the letterpress: "The interiors.speak for themselves and constitute a good collection for reference. Its furniture needs no introduction, comment, or commendation; it is a style of and by itself, and like that of all fine periods, it is consistent and thoroughly in accord with the architectural encasement. It shows the same effects of conscious study of and for unity of style which is characteristic of the body of the work of its progenitors and their immediate followers." This guy was paid to write this incisive critique; I can't add anything more (or less) illuminating than that.
