Das Porträt wurde im Jahr 1824 als Frontispiz zu einem Artikel über Ferdinand Ries "Memoir of Ferdinand Ries" in der engl. Musikzeitschrift "The Harmonicon" veröffentlicht.- Der Pianist u. Komponist Ferdinand Ries (* 28. November 1784 in Bonn; ? 13. Januar 1838 in Frankfurt am Main) war ein Klavierschüler von Ludwig van Beethoven u. war von 1803-05 auch eine Art Sekretär Beethovens: Er führte Korrespondenzen mit Verlegern, kopierte Noten, erledigte Botengänge. Kompositionsunterricht erhielt er daneben sporadisch bei Johann Georg Albrechtsberger.- Fleckig, kl. Randläsuren.# Stipple engraving.- Stained.-.

Ferdinand made his début as Beethoven's pupil on 1 August 1804 at the Augarten.
