Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Fine condition dark blue boards with a white cloth spine and blue spine lettering contained in a near fine condition non price-clipped photographic dust jacket. Includes Dedication; A Note to the Reader; Appendix: The Films of Montgomery Clift; and Index. Illustrated with 60 black-and-white photographs. The upper rear jacket edge has a 1/2 inch chip; the jacket is otherwise in fine condition. (see photographs). The inner front board and blank first front free endpaper are darkened/foxed. All other pages are in fine condition. "Classically handsome, extraordinarily gifted, a legend before his death who created the mold for James Dean and Marlon Brando - Montgomery Clift will never be forgotten by anyone who saw him on the screen. Women literally screamed for him; critics acclaimed him - yet he died, at the age of forty-five, a haunted, broken man. What happened? Why did so promising a life end so tragically? Here, through years of research and hundreds of interviews with Clift's family, friends, lovers, associates and confidants, illustrated with sixty photographs, many never before published, is the first, definitive in -depth biography to break through the public and private facade of Montgomery Clift - a 1950's rebel on screen and off. Here are the famous films, from Red River to From Here to Eternity to The Misfits, as well as the real stories behind them: the lacerating fights with John Huston on Freud; the intense relationship with Elizabeth Taylor begun during the filming of A Place in the Sun; the man-to-man showdown with John Wayne in Red River; the deep friendships and provocative confrontations with such people as Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Alfred Hitchcock, Elia Kazan, William Wyler, Olivia de Havilland, James Jones, Howard Hawks and Katharine Hepburn. Here, too, is the private Monty, a life heretofore hinted at in rumors and whispers, but never before revealed in true depth; the frank story of his battles with alcohol and drugs; his complex relationships with friends and family; his sexual encounters with men and women; his psychological disturbances and bizarre behavior; the car accident that changed his life. From his peripatetic childhood in the close care of his mother to his early Broadway successes to his meteoric rise and subsequent fall before the eyes of the world, this is a riveting, life-size portrait of Montgomery Clift the actor and the man - a fascinating voyage into the spotlighted world of the movie star, and the dark realms of the human psyche." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps.

Rivista / Giornale Prima edizione
Magazine. 84p. including covers 8.5x11 inches, articles, features, reviews, listings, illustrated with b&w photos and ads, very good semi-glossy entertainment magazine in lightly-worn stapled pictorial wraps. Cover story on Terrence McNally, Ben Bagley, three young faces from Universal Studios. Also Van Dyke Parks, Camelot in Nevada. The Playwrights Unit. This issue is thoroughly confusing jumping from vol. 12 , #6 to vol. 13, #7 in one month. Likely they meant vol. 3 as by January 1971 the numbering was vol. 3, #9. The numbering of the volumes is illogical in the beginning years up to about 1971. "After Dark" was originally "Ballroom Dance Magazine" which ended with its volume 9, #4. The new magazine's first issue continued the numbering of the previous magazine and so issue #1 is stated as volume 10, #1. By the third year of the magazine they changed the numbering from volume 13 to volume 3, #9. A fine magazine of arts, stage, dance and music that bridged the gap between gay and straight readers in the 1970s-80s.
