(Hardcover, 1851). 1851 1st edition. Square 12mo (125 x 156mm). Pp173 + 2 pp ads. Hand-coloured frontispiece. Dark blue/green cloth, spine titled in gilt, gilt embossing & vignette on upper board, all edges gilt. Spine quite frayed, inner hinges broken with preliminary pages loose, tape-mark to frontispiece and title-page. A complete working copy of a very scarce book. A countryside novel for boys, with angling references. January Searle was the pen-name used by George Searle Phillips, a journalist who worked in both England and the United States. He wrote widely, but this appears to be his only work which refers to angling. .
