This is an accessible and beautifully illustrated work for all ages, extensive and exhaustive in its study of different species of butterflies and moths. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, sound, with marks to the boards and spine and shelf wear to the joints, extremities and head and tail of the spine. Splitting to the cloth to the head of the front joint. Hinges are starting but held firmly by cords. Offsetting to the end papers. Internally, firmly bound. Marginal age toning to pages which are generally clean apart from the odd handling mark. Plates are very bright and clean. Very Good. book.

Undated, but c. 1890s. Tall 4to., (29.5cm x 21.5cm) in full olive green decorative cloth gilt, a.e.g., [xvi] + 273pp, indexed, illustrated with 30 coloured plates plus 8 black and white text figures. A clean copy with no previous ownership inscriptions or annotation. One gather loose at pp7-pp10, neat tape repairs to front and rear inner hinges, also to short closed tears at foot of two pages in the loose gather. Very light foxing to endpapers, boards have a few small handling marks, two scratches to rear and wear to all edges, dampstained area to lower outer corners that also slightly affects the gilt of the shelf edge, gilt to spine faded.
