Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. First Edition, Second Printing. One of this mid-20th-century, military-thriller writer's best novels is this sea captain's battle with a non-human enemy. Captain Harkness' British merchant vessel flounders in tremendous seas driven by gale force winds as he struggles desperately to keep it aloat until help can arrive. The careful balance Trevor maintains between crew and passengers' personal dramas and the drama of the ship fighting the sea makes for a memorable thriller notable for lack of gunfire and warfare. Boards are slightly worn along edges, corners and at spine ends; front end page shows "shadow" of sticker since removed from dj flap, and top edge of text is foxed, o/w clean and unmarked, tight and square, not remaindered. The dustjacket shows several small tears and creases with considerable wear at edges and corners, though the jacket painting by Francis Flint, the design and lettering are not significantly damaged. A decent reading copy of a well-written adventure novel.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Jacket by Jean Pierre Trevor (illustratore). 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of largely black jacket and spine, corners slightly rubbed and bruised, some spotting to page fore edges, some time staining to back jacket, not price clipped (25s), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 280pp. For a small group of friends a flight to the South of France marks the beginning of a well earned holiday, the fourth they have spent at the Villa Mimosa in Antibes. It is a place they have come to love, the sun, the sea, the palms. But this year it will be different. It only takes a split second of panic on one of their parts to compromise all of them. The easy camaraderie that once bound them together cracks and falls away. All are prisoners of fear and guilt and there is no one to rescue them but themselves. What will each of them do? Elleston Trevor (1920-95), was a British novelist and playwright who wrote under several pseudonyms. Born Trevor Dudley-Smith, he eventually changed his name to Elleston Trevor. Trevor worked in many genres, but is principally remembered for his 1964 adventure story 'The Flight of the Phoenix' written as Elleston Trevor, and for a series of Cold War thrillers featuring the British secret agent Quiller, written under the pseudonym Adam Hall. Quite a scarce book.
