  • Immagine del venditore per A Brontė Tapestry by a Children's Librarian (Florence M. Sturges). Published 1981 by Courier - Gazette, Rockland Maine. Charlotte, Emily, and Annem "Jane Eyre", "Wuthering Heights", "Villette". OP venduto da Brothertown Books

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. In "A Bronte Tapestry", Florence M. Sturges (writing under the pseudonym "A Children's Librarian"), took small liberties with the actual story of the Brontē sisters, playing free with things, but not actually wandering from the well-trod path that was the known life of the remarkable sisters. The fictionalization is slight . conversations are imagined - as are thoughts . and the result is an extremely readable story. Sturges focuses, rightly, on Charlotte , Emily and Anne- the three sisters - the Triumvirate! - to which the entire world bows in homage for their literary brilliance. With a frontispiece portrait of Charlotte, and a few scattered reproductions of old pictures, this is a book to inspire and entrance readers of all ages. Paperback format. ****************************************** In her Prologue, Sturges states her aim in writing the book : "It is the author's purpose in this life story to interpret for the younger reader the peculiar strength of individuality and personal initiative against barriers of remoteness and sorrow and disappointment , and to show how that spirit entered into the art of the writer. Their books, written in adulthood, seem to give forth a special kind of intensity, and there is a sense of richer kinship with their readers. One might add that the force or drive they showed in their works became a triumph over adversity. This imagination was a saving grace and became their special art. Today's world is vastly changed from that of 1825; there is no need to compare the material changes from that wind-blown world in Yorkshire. Woman's place in the world of today is so altered as to appear almost in a realm of fantasy, In the Brontė's time feminine expression was a daring gesture." ***************************************** TITLE : A Brontė Tapestry / AUTHOR : "A Children's Librarian" (Pseudonym of Florence M.
