First Obl. 4to, stiff pictorial wrappers. 96 pp, numerous photographs, tables, maps and renerings. The area of study was a 20-square-block tract of the west side of Manhattan, bounded by Amsterdam Avenue to the west, Central Park West to the east, 97th Street to the north and 87th Street to the south. At the time of the study the area was occupied, except for the major north-south avenues, primarily by brownstone houses, "old-law" (i.e., pre-1901) and "new-law" tenements. The project proposed rehabilitation of older dwellings where feasible, and replacement (in stages) of the remainder by low-to-medium-rise apartment buildings, many with ground-floor commercial space. A considerable amount of existing-tenant relocation was envisioned. Very good except for a bump to the bottom inside corner and moderate cover edge wear.
